Moventas, which manufactures gearboxes for wind turbines and other industries, is acquiring the wind gearboxes division of Huddersfield-based David Brown to create DB Wind UK.
This wasn’t so much a straight takeover story, however, as a reordering of corporate structures within the empire of Scottish industrialist Jim McColl, whose Clyde Blowers Capital private equity funds control both companies.
McColl bought David Brown in 2008 as part of a deal with US group Textron, seeing the opportunity to extend its long-lived gearboxes brand into the wind sector for the first time.
