UK, Denmark advance link-study
Grid operators in the UK and Denmark have agreed to press on with a study of a possible power link between the two nations.
National Grid of the UK and Energinet.dk said a feasibility study will jointly look at the technical and economic factors involved in building an interconnector.
A statement said: “The interconnector could unlock significant economic benefits for both countries in helping to maximise the potential of both offshore and onshore wind, add to security of supply and enable a competitive market.”
The two companies first mooted the idea of a UK-Danish link in May 2012 when they announced a "pre-feasibility" study, which will now be widened.
They have until October 2014 to look at possible routes and landing sites, budgets and permitting.
