Dong welcomes 'concrete' UK step

Dong Energy has welcomed the UK’s announcement of major changes to increase support for offshore wind as “a concrete step in the right direction from the government towards fulfilling the next phase of offshore wind development in the UK”.

Dong UK chairman Brent Cheshire says: “The strong commitment to offshore wind demonstrated by the government today gives us the confidence to move forward with our future pipeline of projects.

“Dong Energy has already committed to invest £4bn in the UK’s offshore wind market and we are the world leader in this field.

“We view the UK as a great place to invest and it is a growth market for us – our 1.6GW of installed offshore wind farms already power over one million homes.”

There is currently over 20GW of renewables capacity operational in the UK – a figure that could double by 2020 as a result of the Government's reforms.

DECC says it has a very healthy pipeline in key technologies, with a total of almost 11GW of offshore and onshore wind with planning consent and awaiting construction.
