Acciona signs for new TPI China plant

Acciona Windpower has signed an agreement with TPI Composites that will see the Spanish group supplied with turbine blades from a new plant the latter is opening in China.

Under the “multi-year” deal TPI – which is based in Arizona, US – said its new factory in Dafeng, Jiangsu province will deliver blades to Acciona at projects globally including the US, where the turbine-maker in November bagged a 300MW order in Texas.

TPI already has a plant in Taicang, Jiangsu, where it will manufacture molds for the Acciona blades.

Jose Luis Blanco, CEO of Acciona Windpower, said: “We are very pleased to be partnering with TPI for the supply of AW116/125 wind blades for worldwide use.

“Acciona’s track record of reliability and TPI’s experience as an independent wind blade manufacturing partner will serve our needs well for years to come.”

The Spanish manufacturer is a new customer for TPI.

TPI recently announced the reopening of its factory in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, to serve the North American market, where it counts GE among its customers.

The US supplier has also in the last six months wrapped up a deal to supply Nordex with blades from its plant in Izmir, Turkey.
