Spanish wind group Gamesa will equip the first wind project undertaken by Kanematsu, a 54MW plant in the Philippines, the Japanese trading firm said in a statement.

Gamesa will supply 27 2MW turbines for the ¥10bn yen ($102.4m) project on Guimaras Island.

Kanematsu and Philippines-based independent power producer Trans Asia Renewable Energy will complete the project in late 2014.

Commercial and state-backed lenders will provide financing.

The Philippines has seen several wind projects announced already this year, with Gamesa's rival manufacturers Vestas and Siemens both winning business in the nation.

Tokyo-based Kanematsu claims a renewable energy capacity, including solar and geothermal projects, of about 530MW in emerging markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia and Costa Rica.
