Acciona's Waubra wind farm won't be joined by Allendale East

Spanish renewables group Acciona has scrapped plans for a 69MW wind farm in Australia.

The company says after several years of detailed investigations it has now decided the Allendale East project in the state of South Australia is “not commercially viable”.

Advancing the planned 46-turbine wind farm had proved far from easy for Acciona.

In June 2011 Allendale East was blocked by a state court on the grounds of “visual amenity” in a ruling believed to be a first for Australia.

Later that year Acciona said it would submit revised plans, but the latest announcement seals its fate.

Acciona says the decision “has no bearing on the company’s other development projects”.
