Australian court blocks $185m wind project over visual impact

The company says after several years of detailed
investigations it has now decided the Allendale East project in the state of
South Australia is “not commercially viable”.
Advancing the planned 46-turbine wind farm had proved far
from easy for Acciona.
In June 2011 Allendale East was blocked by a state court on
the grounds of “visual amenity” in a ruling believed to be a first for
Later that year Acciona said it would submit revised plans, but
the latest announcement seals its fate.
Acciona says the decision “has no bearing on the company’s
other development projects”.
The Spanish group’s other Australian activities include
building the 189MW Mount Gellibrand wind farm in the state of Victoria, where
it already operates the 192MW Waubra project.
