French power equipment group Alstom has won a 10-turbine order to supply Japanese wind developer Eurus.

Alstom will deliver ECO 74 turbines with 70-metre towers for deployment at a 16.7MW plant on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka.

Alstom says the towers have been specially adapted to cope with seismic activity in the area.

Eurus aims to have Kawazu Wind Farm up and running by February 2015. Japan’s largest wind developer has used Alstom turbines at other projects.

Japan plans to grow its wind capacity to over 11GW by 2020 and 50GW by 2050, according to Alstom.
