AMP invests $100m in US wind

AMP invested the cash on behalf of Australian pensioners

Australian investment group AMP Capital will pump $100m into a 413MW portfolio of US wind farms.

AMP will invest the sum in Capistrano Wind Partners on behalf of a large Australian pension fund.

Capistrano was formed last year as a joint venture by power producer Edison Mission Energy (EME), finance group TIAA-CREF and Cook Inlet Region, an Alaskan native corporation.

The company focuses on acquiring large-scale wind projects in North America, and currently owns and runs five plants in Nebraska, Texas and Wyoming.

Capistrano says the AMP investment will help fund growth of its portfolio, and that it will be studying further opportunities.
