Chinese wind group Ming Yang says it expects to ship 2.5GW of turbines this year, in a bullish update to investors that also forecasts higher selling prices as developers choose performance over cheapness in a consolidating market.

Ming Yang says 400MW of that capacity will go to overseas markets, mostly through its partnership deal with Reliance Power of India.

It also plans to start delivering turbines to two 200MW offshore wind farms in China’s Guangdong Province.

Chief executive Chuanwei Zhang says: “The market has been consolidating after a number of turbine manufacturers closed down or suspended production due to uncompetitive products.

“Developers are choosing products with higher power-generation capability and lower cost per kilowatt-hour rather than those with the cheapest prices,” claims Zhang. Ming Yang is forecasting market prices of up to…
