China 'finalising renewables quota'

China has published the final draft of a renewable energy quota law that is expected to increase consumption of wind power in the country, according to a report.

The law, to be implemented by 2015, will require grid operators and provincial governments to obtain up to 15% of their energy from renewable sources.

The third – and final – draft of the law is currently open for comment, an industry source tells financial daily the China Securities Journal.  It is expected to be approved “in the near future”, says the report.

The new rules – similar to a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) in other countries – will put pressure on China’s two grid operators, State Grid and China Southern Grid, to absorb more renewable energy, and…
