The Chinese manufacturer will provide 86 of its 2.5MW permanent magnet direct-drive (PMDD) turbines for the Penonomé project in Panama’s Coclé province. It will also offer maintenance services, it said in an online statement.

Last August, Goldwind USA signed a $71m deal to finance the initial 55MW phase of the Penonomé wind farm.

Goldwind, China’s biggest turbine supplier with 3.75GW installed in 2013, connected a low-wind 2MW prototype turbine to the grid earlier this month near Beijing.
