EDC, Vestas 'plan Burgos boost'

Philippines power-producer Energy Development Corporation (EDC) is talking to turbine-maker Vestas over expanding its Burgos wind project to up to 150MW, local reports say.

EDC in March named Vestas as preferred supplier for the initial 86MW project in Ilocos Norte, which is due in operation in 2014.

Now EDC president Richard Tantoco is keen to secure approvals to expand the project to 150MW as soon as possible, and has already informed Vestas of the plan, says the Philippines-based Business Mirror.

“The team is working now with Vestas for additional turbines,” it quotes Tantoco saying.

EDC is the country's largest producer of geothermal energy.

A Vestas official said: “We only comment on firm and unconditional orders.”
