Aneel OKs 75MW new Brazil wind

Brazil's power regulator Aneel authorised two wind plants with a combined installed capacity of 37.8MW to start commercial operations and said that another two, with 36.8MW, are ready to go as soon as they are connected to the grid.

The two plants that started producing power on June 19 were the 23.1MW Taíba Águia and the 14.7MW Taíba Andorinha in the northeastern state of Ceará.

They are controlled by Queiroz Galvão Energias Renováveis.

Aneel also said that the 16.1MW Juremas and the 20.7MW Macacos were ready. But they won't be producing power as they still lack a connection to the grid. They are controlled by CPFL Renováveis in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

The grid connection, which is being built by Chesf is expected to be concluded in coming months.

The authorisation means that CPFL Renováveis will be able to receive revenue from the government, backdated to 1 May, since the lack of connection is not its responsibility.

Juremas and Macacos make up the 78.2MW Macacos I wind power complex, which includes Costa Branca and Pedra Preta, of 20,7MW installed capacity each, that had been green-lighted by Aneel earlier this year.
