James Fisher signs up TranSPAR

UK-based James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) has signed an agreement with Canada’s ExtremeOcean Innovation to deploy the TranSPAR wind farm support vessel concept.

TranSPAR is designed to offer a new solution to the problem of transferring operations and maintenance technicians to offshore wind turbines in harsh environments.

It is able to reduce motion, increase safety and enable simplified connections, while carrying up to eight personnel, said JFMS.

According to the operator, TranSPAR will provide significant accessibility for Round 2 and 3 offshore wind farm sites when compared to traditional vessels, will connect in wave heights of up to three metres, and offers integration with existing boat landings.

The exclusive arrangement with JFMS will last for a year, with the option of a further twelve-month extension.

Delivery of a full-scale prototype is due in mid 2015. TranSPAR was a finalist in the UK Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) access competition.
