Technip starts Westermost cabling

Subsea engineering specialist Technip has started offshore work on inter-array cabling at Dong Energy’s Westermost Rough wind farm.

Technip Offshore Wind will transport and deploy 42.5km of inter-array cabling at the 210MW project, located off the coast of northeast England.

Technip worked on Dong’s Gunfleet Sands 3 project in 2012.

Westermost Rough will comprise 35 of Siemens' 6MW offshore turbines – the first commercial deployment of the new machine.

Turbine installation is slated  to begin in the summer, with the project due to be fully operational next year.

Dong recently agreed the sale of 50% of Westermost Rough, with the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) and Japanese conglomerate Marubeni each taking a quarter.
