Breheny gets Galloper onshore nod

Engineering group Breheny has landed a £1m ($1.7m) contract to handle preparatory onshore work for the Galloper offshore wind farm in eastern England.

The locally-based engineer will carry out work including preparation for the 340MW project’s onshore substation, and installing infrastructure for basic utilities.

The work is due to be completed in early 2015.

The Galloper project team is pressing on with the work needed to keep the wind farm on track while the project’s future ownership is sorted out.

Galloper is a 50/50 joint venture between RWE and SSE – but the latter has said it will seek an exit from the project after scaling back its ambitions in the offshore wind sector.

RWE has said it remains committed to the wind farm and will seek a new partner to take the project forward.

France’s Areva is believed to be in the frame to supply turbines to Galloper.
