Westermost substation installed

The offshore substation is in place at the site of Dong Energy’s 210MW Westermost Rough offshore wind farm in the UK North Sea, the Danish group has announced.

The substation was lifted into position by the Seaway Heavy Lifting vessel Stanislav Yudin and is currently being cabled-up at the site off eastern England.

The wind farm will comprise 35 of Siemens' 6MW offshore turbines – the first commercial deployment of the new machine.

Turbine installation is due to begin in the summer, said Dong, with the project due to be fully operational next year.

Dong recently agreed the sale of 50% of Westermost Rough, with the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) and Japanese conglomerate Marubeni each taking a quarter.
