Spanish wind group Gamesa has announced a 100MW turbine order for a project in China, with the prospect of doubling the deal next year.

Gamesa will deliver 50 of its G97-2.0 MW wind turbines to CGN Wind Energy for the Yangchajie wind farm in Yunnan province.

The agreement also includes the option of a follow-on order next year for another 100MW for the wind farm’s second phase.

The G97s to be used at Yangchajie are configured to the special low-temperature and low air-density demands of Yunnan, which is 2,000 metres above sea level.

Gamesa said the agreement comes hard on the heels of two other recent orders in China totalling 97MW.

Gamesa’s China CEO  José Antonio Miranda said: “The Chinese wind market offers spectacular growth prospects.”
