Nexans gets Gode Wind cabling nod

French cabling giant Nexans has been tapped to supply inter-array lines for developer Dong's Gode Wind 1 and 2 wind power projects off the coast of Lower Saxony, Germany.

The order, for delivery and installation of 140km of 34kV cables, is part of a larger framework deal between the Danish utility and the Paris-headquartered contractor for the supply of a total 900km of medium-voltage offshore cabling.

"The order for Nexans shows that the German supplier industry already occupies a key position in the international offshore business, as the outline contract with Nexans not only includes the supply of our German projects Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Gode Wind, but also the supply of our UK wind farms, says Trine Borum Bojsen, Dong's German wind sector managing director.

The wind farms, which lie 45km offshore near the islands of Norderney and Juist, will have a combined capacity of 582MW.

Total investment for the two projects stands at around €2.2bn, with construction slated to start in the spring of 2015.
