The environmental agency of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, Idema, has given the green light for the start of construction of the 30MW Serra de Santana 3 wind farm that will be built by Spain’s Gestamp Wind.

Gestamp initially filed for the license in 2011 after obtaining a preliminary go-ahead in 2010. According to the company, construction should be concluded by the end of 2014.

Gamesa of Spain is supplying turbines for the wind farm.

This is the first of the three projects in the same location to receive the installation license as the permission for the start of construction is called.

The 28MW Serra de Santana 2 obtained preliminary approval 2010 and the 19MW Serra de Santana 1 was given the preliminary go ahead in 2009.

These are still waiting for installation licenses.

The Serra de Santana complex was commissioned at an auction in 2010 and was initially scheduled to start operations in 2013. But because of delays Gestamp obtained permission from power regulator Aneel to extend the deadline to the second half of 2014.
