Upbeat PNE sees growth in 2014

Cuxhaven-based PNE Wind says that it will boost its wind farm development business this year following the acquisition of rival German developer WKN.

PNE Wind itself last year built or began construction on five wind park projects with a combined capacity of 35MW, and has building permits on hand for additional wind farms with 22 turbines and a total capacity of 58MW.

Additional projects are currently in the approval process and the building permits are expected to be issued shortly.

In total, wind farms under construction, permitted or nearly permitted represent 160MW of generation capacity, PNE says. The debt financing for these projects representing more than €200m ($272m) has already been secured with six German and European banks.

"The large number of permitted wind farms which will be constructed in the near future is the result of our successful project development carried out over the past few years,” says Markus Lesser, chief operating officer at PNE Wind.

“Our efforts are now paying off with the implementation of these projects.”

PNE’s WKN unit last year installed fewer turbines than its parent, but is also stepping up its activities.

WKN in 2013 completed the 8.2MW Ebersgrün wind farm and currently has building permits for three wind farms with a total capacity of close to 41MW.

"The projects developed by us have already been sold and will be constructed and put into operation in 2014," says WKN chief executive Martinus Scherweit.
