V164 blades set sail for Denmark

The V164 blades are loaded for their trip to Denmark

The V164 blades are pictured in Hanstholm, northern Denmark, on their trip to Østerild.

Vestas has released new pictures of the blades for its flagship 8MW offshore wind turbine on their journey from the UK to Denmark for assembly of the first V164 prototype.

The three 80-metre, 35-tonne blades are being transported from the manufacturer’s R&D facility on the Isle of Wight, southern England, to the Danish national test centre in Østerlid.

The V164’s nacelle began its own journey to Østerlid last week.

Installation of the turbine is slated to be completed in the first quarter of next year, after which the V164 will be put through its paces to double-check reliability and performance.

Vestas and Danish developer Dong Energy have an “enhanced” co-operation agreement to deploy the machine at Østerild as part of plans to accelerate roll-out.
