UK offshore 'at risk' under EMR plan

Government advisory body the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has warned UK policymakers that offshore wind investment is at risk under draft plans for Electricity Market Reform (EMR).

The CCC, which advises British legislators on low-carbon policy, wrote to UK energy secretary Ed Davey outlining concerns over the government's ambitions post-2020 and the planned rate of degression for offshore wind strike prices.

The UK government published the draft EMR delivery plan in July, setting out the policy mechanisms it hopes will prompt huge investment in low-carbon energy projects – mainly offshore wind and nuclear.

But the CCC said it has “concerns in two specific areas, where required investment is at risk under current proposals” and need to be addressed.
