Samsung, Pattern fund Ontario wind project

Samsung’s renewable energy unit and developer Pattern Energy say they secured financing to allow construction start this spring of the 270MW South Kent Wind project in Ontario, Canada.

 The companies did not provide details of the financing or the amount.

The project is part of parent Samsung C&T Corp.’s C$7bn ($6.82bn) investment to build and operate 2.5GW of wind and solar power in the province.

Samsung Renewable Energy spokesman Tim Smitheman tells Recharge that South Kent is the first of four wind projects totaling 870MW that it is developing with Pattern there. The second is the 150MW Grand Renewable Energy Park that the partners expect to finance in the next several months.
