Siemens praises wind-friendly Denmark

As it cut the ribbon at two huge new research centres in Denmark, Siemens said the country’s solid political support for wind power and ambitious energy policies helped make it a prime choice for investment.

The German group is investing DKr1bn ($174m) in testing and development in Denmark, including in the state-of-the-art R&D centres in Brande and Aalborg it opened today.

Siemens Wind Power chief technology officer Henrik Stiesdal said Denmark’s government-backed Østerild test site in the North of Jutland, which opened last autumn, was a crucial factor, along with the country’s skilled wind-engineers.

“We have the competences within wind turbines here in Denmark. We believe that to a very high degree,” Stiesdal told Recharge.
