Finnish power technology group The Switch says its high-speed drive trains are performing as planned in two 5MW turbines in China.

The Switch supplied permanent-magnet generator (PMG) and full-power converter (FPC) packages to Haizhuang Windpower (HZW) for its new 5MW machine.

The optimised drive trains, known as The Switch Drive, represent the highest power range that The Switch has commissioned to date, says the Finnish group.

Two of the 5MW turbines are up and running on wetlands in China. HZW says it already has two customers interested in deploying the machines offshore.
