EDF installs first Teesside turbine

EDF Energy Renewables has completed the installation of the first turbine for its 62MW Teesside offshore wind farm, located close to shore at Redcar in the English northeast, near the mouth of the River Tees.

The installation work is being undertaken using the six-leg jack-up vessel MPI Adventure, owned by MPI Offshore, operating out of the Port of Hartlepool.

EDF had to review its use of vessels for the installation due to project delays and restrictions in the navigation channel at the Port of Hartlepool.

The operator said this would not normally have posed a problem, but the delays meant it had entered a period of uncertain weather conditions resulting in it picking a larger vessel more suitable for winter conditions.
