Duke's Notrees wind farm in west Texas

Duke Energy Renewables has completed the Los Vientos 1 and 2 projects, bringing its wind capacity in Texas to 770MW and 1.62GW in the US.

The 200MW Los Vientos 1 has 87 2.3MW Siemens turbines, with all power being sold under a 25-year contract to San Antonio-based CPS Energy, the nation’s largest municipally owned energy utility.

The 202MW Los Vientos 2 uses 84 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 2.4MW turbines, with Austin Energy taking all the electricity over  25 years.

Because of their location in south Texas, more than 190km south of Corpus Christi and 32km inland from the Gulf of Mexico, the projects will generate most of their power during the day, when demand is highest.
