Wind fans shout for Navitus Bay

Wind power supporters in southern England took to the streets on Sunday during a protest against a major UK Round 3 offshore project.

The pro-wind group assembled in Swanage, Dorset, as opponents called for the 1.1GW Navitus Bay wind farm project to be blocked.

The pro- and anti-wind farm factions numbered about 100 and 300 respectively, according to local reports. The project’s supporters, who included local environmental campaigners, said they wanted to ensure their point of view was heard.

In response to earlier consultations, co-developers Eneco and EDF recently scaled-back the maximum size of the project by 115 turbines and moved its near-shore boundary 3km further from the towns of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
