IFC group backs Tanzanian wind

The wind farm is 700km from Dar es Salaam

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part of the World Bank, is to invest in a 100MW wind farm near Singida, Tanzania.

IFC will make the investment in conjunction with UK-based Aldwych International and Tanzanian telecoms provider Six Telecoms.

The total project cost for the wind farm is estimated at $285m, of which the IFC and its partners will contribute $18m during the development phase and $71m in total equity.

The project, being developed by Kenyan renewable group Wind East Africa, is located 700km from Dar es Salaam. The wind farm will help diversify Tanzania’s electricity supply away from hydropower.
