Partners developing an offshore wind turbine testing centre off Aberdeen have handed in a key planning application to advance the £230m ($371m) project.

The application covers onshore works including the export cable route and substation compound, to be built on land near the village of Blackdog, that form part of the onshore connection between the proposed European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) and the Scottish grid.

The EOWDC is being developed as a demonstrator site for 11 “first run of production” offshore wind turbine models aiming to be used on UK Round 3 projects.

It is the subject of a ferocious opposition campaign by US tycoon Donald Trump, who claims it will ruin the outlook from his luxury golf resort.
