RWE has handed a £1.1m ($1.8m) civil engineering works contract to Alun Griffiths, a Welsh construction firm, as it presses to maximise the economic benefits of its Gwynt y Mor offshore wind project to the Welsh economy.

The contractor has been hired to prepare the Port of Mostyn for the arrival of the towers, hubs and blades that will make up the 160 Siemens turbines destined for Gwynt y Mor, with deliveries to begin early this year.

The work includes the preparation and compaction of lay-down areas and haul roads, the installation of essential site infrastructure, and the construction of a temporary office block.
