TenneT is grid-connecting Germany's offshore wind push

German government officials today stepped up the pressure on TenneT over its ability to fund delayed offshore wind grid links, as the network operator admitted the next few weeks will be vital to gauging investor appetite for the sector.

Germany’s parliament late last year passed legislation designed to ease the grid-connection issues. The law caps the liability facing  transmission system operators (TSOs) – principally TenneT – in the event of delays or damage to links.

The industry hopes this will finally persuade pension funds, insurance companies and other institutional investors to start pumping capital into the sector.

Despite the delays, Germany will meet its target to build 10GW of offshore wind capacity by 2020, and 25GW by 2030, Hans-Joachim Otto, vice minister for economics, told a conference in Hannover.
