China WindPower warns on profits

Shares in Hong Kong-listed wind farm operator China WindPower fell more than 6% after the company said it expects to post a “significant” drop in net profit for 2012.

The company says the decline in profits compared with the previous year is mainly due to the decrease in gains from disposal of stakes in wind projects, and the lower income from electricity output.

Output has been hit by worsening grid curtailment in northern China, reducing profits at many of China’s biggest wind developers this year.

China’s sixth-largest wind developer, China WindPower reported a 90% drop in first half profits, partly as a result of grid curtailment at an average rate of 36%, according to its interim report.
