The Falkland Islands government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the British military authorities for the construction of a new three-turbine wind farm on the remote South Atlantic islands.

The new 1MW wind farm comprising three Enercon turbines is expected to come on line in April 2014 at Mare Harbour, East Falkland. The plant will provide renewable energy to the Mount Pleasant military base for at least the next 15 years.

“I am delighted to see the MoU signed, as this will allow the project to start in earnest,” says Gavin Short, member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly.
