EDF to finish second Texas wind project before PTC expires

EDF Renewable Energy will have its 150MW Bobcat Bluff project in Texas fully operational this month, enabling the developer to qualify for the federal wind production tax credit that expires on 31 December.

EDF, which will own and operate Bobcat, will sell the power into the merchant market, says spokeswoman Sandi Briner. The wind farm is located 20 miles (32.1km) south of the city of Wichita Falls and utilizes General Electric turbines.

The PTC, the main federal wind incentive, pays $22/MWh, inflation-adjusted, for a project’s first decade in operation.
