Moray Firth offshore wind project secures local backing

EDPR and Repsol plan to build three 500MW projects in the east of the zone

Aberdeenshire Council has backed the three offshore wind farms to be carved out of the Round 3 Moray Firth zone, providing a boost to the developers as their planning application is scrutinized by government.

This summer the Moray Firth zone – awarded to EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Repsol in 2010 – became the first Round 3 project to see its planning application submitted to government.

Aberdeenshire Council was a key statutory consultee in the Moray Firth consultation period that began in August, and its view carries significant weight with Marine Scotland, the government agency overseeing development in Scottish waters.

EDPR and Repsol intend to build three 500MW projects named Telford, Stevenson and MacColl in the eastern part of their zone, with plenty of spare room…
