EIB backs 141MW of Irish wind with $201m Bord Gáis loan

The EIB-backed plants will join Ireland's existing onshore wind fleet

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is backing onshore wind development in Ireland with a €155m ($201m) loan to utility Bord Gáis.

The EIB finance will help Bord Gáis build six plants with a total capacity of 141MW, taking the company’s total wind base to 365MW.

The wind farms are in Counties Tipperary, Clare and Kilkenny, and are expected to come into service next year and in 2014 at a total cost of €311m.

The largest of the wind farms involved is the 48MW Kill Hill project in Tipperary.

Bord Gáis says the European funding is “critical in supporting our roadmap for wind”.

Last week the Irish group raised €500m in Log in to read complete article.
