AMSC cuts staff 25% on slow wind sales, sees wider Q3 loss

US technology supplier AMSC has slashed employee head count by 25% in response to “challenging conditions in the wind power market,” the latest in a series of moves to bolster its balance sheet since severing ties with former top customer Sinovel Wind Group in 2011.

"While the long-term prospects for renewable energy remain bright, conditions in the sector today are challenging," says AMSC chief executive Daniel McGahn. “Given this environment, we made the difficult but prudent decision to reduce our workforce in order to weather the industry downturn and minimize our cash usage."
