Algonquin Power & Utilities says it has started talks with China’s Goldwind over the potential purchase of a 109MW wind project in the US state of Illinios.

The project is not named in an Algonquin statement, but is most likely to refer to the 109.5MW Shady Oaks Wind Farm in Lee County, Illinois.

Algonquin tells investors: “Discussions are continuing and there is no certainty as to whether a binding agreement will be reached. A further announcement will be made in due course, if appropriate.”

Shady Oaks sells its power to Commonwealth Edison under a 20-year purchase agreement.

Goldwind bought the wind farm from Irish developer Mainstream Renewable Power in 2010.
