Denmark to run tender for 450MW of offshore wind development

The new developments will join these turbines in Denmark's offshore fleet

The Danish government has allocated 500MW for near-coast offshore wind development at six sites in the nation’s waters.

Denmark will put 450MW out for tender and allocate a further 50MW zone to test wind turbines, says its Ministry of Climate, Energy and Buildings.

An increase in offshore wind power was a key part of the national “energy settlement” agreed by the Danish government and opposition parties earlier this year.

The six sites chosen are at Bornholm, Smaaland, Sejeroe and Saeby, along with two areas in the south and north of the Danish North Sea. The developments will be at least 4km from the coast.
