Broadwind gets US order for up to $41m of wind turbine towers

US wind tower manufacturer Broadwind Energy has announced a supply deal worth up to $41m and says it is “increasingly optimistic” about its business outlook for 2013 as it wins market share.

In a statement more upbeat than most to emerge recently from America’s beleaguered wind-power supply chain, Broadwind says an unnamed US turbine manufacturer has placed an order for $14m of towers for delivery next year.

The contract also includes an option for up to a further $27m of towers.

The structures will be made at Broadwind’s factories in Wisconsin and Texas.

Chief executive Peter Duprey says the deal is a boost at a time of regulatory uncertainty around the renewal of the federal production tax credit (PTC).
