Bode's tenure coincided with unprecedented federal support for wind

Denise Bode’s departure on 1 January as chief executive of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) offers the struggling industry a much-needed opportunity to rethink its strategic objectives and chart a growth path.

She leaves with the sector experiencing a sharp slowdown in activity. Developers have cancelled various projects and turbine orders, the supply chain is slashing its workforce, and there is little optimism that things will get better even if Congress extends the wind production tax credit (PTC) through 2013.

Bode’s four-year tenure coincided with unprecedented federal government support for wind energy under President Barack Obama, with installations doubling to 51.6GW.
