NextEra expands Kansas portfolio with 165MW project deal

This was completely renaturated as wetlands by the operating company within a habitat management plan and also comprises pastureland and commercial timberland. The farm has a combined output of around 125 megawatts.

NextEra Energy Resources, the largest generator of wind and solar energy in North America, says its subsidiaries have completed the purchase of the 165MW Cimarron I Wind Energy Center in Kansas from Competitive Power Ventures (CPV).

Financial terms were not made public.

The project in southwest Kansas utilizes 72 Siemens 2.3MW turbines. All power from the project is being exported to the Tennessee Valley Authority under a 20-year agreement.

"The addition of the Cimarron Wind Energy Center is consistent with our strategy to add fully-contracted clean energy projects to our portfolio," says Armando Pimentel, chief executive of NextEra Energy Resources .
