Costa Rica connects Juwi's 15MW Eólico Valle wind farm

Costa Rica has grid-connected the 15.3MW Eólico Valle Central wind farm, which developer Juwi claims is a triumph over the logistical odds.

The plant’s 17 Enercon wind turbines are sited 1,800 metres above sea level near the country’s capital San José.

Germany’s Juwi says building the plant during the local rainy season was a challenge. “Given that the wind farm is situated on top of the hills, the roads were slippery, steep and difficult to access,” says Alejandro Lobo-Guerrero, managing director of Juwi Energias Renovables in Costa Rica.

Juwi won a public tender for the plant in 2009 as part of a consortium with local partners BC & Asociados Marshall and MECO.
