Recharge
reported
in
October
that
DMME’s
application
would
cover
installation
of
two
meteorological
and
ocean
monitoring
platforms
to
collect
data
on
wind
velocities,
water
levels,
waves,
and
bird
and
bat
activities.
DMME
says
that
wind
direction
will
be
measured
at
10
heights
above
sea
level
using
LIDAR,
with
a
vendor
model
to
be
selected
later.
Having
high-resolution
velocity
profile
measurements
at
the
two
locations
will
provide
quality
validation
points
for
numerical
wind
models,
which
are
needed
to
hindcast
extreme
events
such
as
hurricanes
that
turbines
and
towers
must
be
designed
to
survive.
