Enel Green Power wins 102MW project in Mexican wind tender

Italy’s Enel Green Power (EGP) has won a tender to build a 102MW wind farm in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, with the company hailing it as a “major step forward” in its Latin American growth strategy.

EGP won the development rights as part of the “Sureste 1, phase 2” tender, organised by the Mexican government’s electricity agency.

The $130m project will be built on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec – the shortest distance between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean – in a wind regime that EGP characterises as very good, with an anticipated load factor of more than 40%.

The 350GWh of estimated annual electricity production will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement with the federal Comisión Federal de Electricidad.
