Brighton & Hove, the closest city to the Rampion wind farm site

E.ON’s Rampion wind farm looks set to be the first of the UK’s massive Round 3 offshore projects to get off the ground.

The company aims to submit an application to the national Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) as soon as August, development manager Chris Tomlinson tells Recharge.

Rampion is based on the Hastings zone, the smallest of the development areas licensed by the UK’s Crown Estate in January 2010.

At 700MW, however, it is significantly bigger than London Array, the largest offshore wind farm under construction in the world.

Output from Rampion will be able to supply 450,000 households, more than two thirds of the homes in the neighbouring counties of East and West Sussex…
