The UK government told onshore wind operators they must deliver tangible benefits to the communities where they site their developments, as it launched a review of incentive levels for the sector.

Energy secretary Ed Davey says local people should see perks such as lower power bills and funding for amenities such as schools as a result of having a wind farm as a neighbour.

The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is consulting on ways that developers could deliver such benefits, and how to maximise the role of local businesses in the onshore wind supply chain.
