Dong sells Walney offshore transmission assets for $178m

The Walney wind farm

Dong Energy – the majority owner of the Walney 2 offshore wind farm – has announced the sale of the transmission assets of the UK Irish Sea project for £110m ($178m).

The sale is to the Blue Transmission Walney 2 consortium, made up of Macquarie Capital and Barclays, which has agreed an operations and maintenance contract with Dong.

Dong says the disposal is in line with regulations requiring offshore wind generators to divest their transmission assets to new transmission owners via a competitive tender run by UK regulator Ofgem.

Dong’s partners in the 183.6MW Walney 2 are UK utility SSE and OPW, a company jointly owned by Dutch pension administrator PGGM and Ampère Equity Fund.
